Jasprit Bumrah took an amazing catch in the first ODI against Australia to dismiss the man-in-form, skipper Steven Smith. Hardik Pandya bowled a good length delivery to Smith who shuffled in his crease and tried to hit it fine as Bumrah was in short fine leg position. Smith top-edged the ball while flicking it and it went almost to the height of the floodlights of M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Bumrah had to make a lot of ground as he ran backward trying to judge where the ball will land. The ball was not easy to spot under the lights but Bumrah did not take his eyes off it and took the catch comfortably, in the end, getting two hands to it.

MS Dhoni too came running as he saw Bumrah taking an excellent catch to dismiss the danger man from Australia. He was surprised by Bumrah’s effort and shared a few laughs with the bowler. Skipper Virat Kohli too watched the ball going in the air and reaching the safe hands of Bumrah. Kohli’s eyes went wide open as he saw Bumrah pull off a blinder, he started celebrating soon after as he knew the importance of the wicket.

Smith survived a DRS decision a delivery earlier through Umpire’s call as Pandya appealed for leg before wicket. Smith went ahead with a reckless shot off the next ball trying to up the scoring rate but did not succeed.

Bumrah has had dropped a few catches in the past fielding in a similar position and has been often criticised for it. But this time he made sure he got both hands to it and did not let the ball bounce after hitting the palms.

Bumrah did well with the ball as well as he shattered the stumps of debutant Hilton Cartwright and drawing first blood in the second innings. He gave just 25 runs in his spell of four overs helping the required rate to go beyond reach in the death overs.
