If you would have thought that Rawalpindi Express Shoaib Akhtar was the fastest bowler the world has seen ever, you are in for a surprise. If you would have thought thagt Brett Lee was the quickest, you are in for a surprise. Jeff Thomson was quick but if we believe the speed-gun, we have a monster of a quick bowler. Meet South African all-rounder David Wiese who bowled a ball with the speed of 173.8 kmph in a domestic game. Is it even possible?

David Wiese was playing CSA T20 league match when the impossible happened. One of the ball he bowled showed to be of speed 173.8 kmph. The television flashed that the ball was that quick. Normally, David Wiese bowls with a speed of 130 kmph. It was surprising that he would have bowled such monster of  a delivery. However, later it was clear that it was a technical glitch. Wiese himself joked about the goof up, saying the delivery made him the quickest bowler of the world.

Jokes apart he is not the quickest bowler on earth. You were right. It was Shoaib Akhtar who is the fastest bowler to have graced the game of cricket. Akhtar had bowled the fastest ball ever bowled in the history of the game. He bowled the delivery in 2003 World Cup that was held in South Africa against England.

The second fastest ball was bowled by Brett Lee.

Australia’s Shaun Tait had also bowled above 160 against Pakistan. Though he is not as consistent as Lee and Shoaib, officially he is the third fastest bowler in the world.

Jeff Thompson is also said to have bowled a ball with the speed of 160 kmph.
