By surpassing his idol Sachin's record, here's how Kohli is the new master blaster

Kohli has also equalled Sachin's record of scoring most hundreds in run chases. Tendulkar scored his 17 hundreds in 232 innings while Kohli achieved the feat in only his 96th.

Skipper Virat Kohli kick started the year like a boss and smashed a phenomenal century which was the key factor in winning yesterday’s game against England in Pune. Moreover, it was the first match win for him as full-time limited-overs leader.

But on the other hand, Kohli’s terrific ton in yesterday’s match broke Sachin Tendulkar’s one of the records. He went past Tendulkar in terms of most hundreds in successful one-day international chases.

In the Pune ODI, after MS Dhoni’s dismissal and the side was decreased to 63/4, Kohli took the charge and decided to smash the English bowlers as hard as he could. Chasing a challenging 351 for a win, he came up with his 27th ton of his career with establishing a life-saviour fifth-wicket stand with local boy Kedar Jadhav.

After this ton, Kohli has topped the list of players who took the least number of innings to reach up to the landmark of 27 ODI hundreds.

Kohli has also equalled Sachin’s record of scoring most hundreds in run chases. Tendulkar scored his 17 hundreds in 232 innings while Kohli achieved the feat in only his 96th.

In 2016, Kohli scored a total of 2,595 runs in international cricket that included three double hundreds in Tests. In ODIs, he smashed 739 runs in 10 innings at 92.37, including three centuries.

Kohli came to the crease after Shikhar Dhawan’s dismissal in the 4th over of the game. While KL Rahul, Yuvraj Singh, and MS Dhoni failed to build a partnership with him, Kohli found a solid support with Kedar Jadhav as India kept hopes alive of taking a lead in the three-match series.

Watch below, the furious knock by #CaptainFearless Virat Kohli:

After a sharing a 200-run fifth-wicket partnership with Jadhav, Virat was dismissed for 122 off 105 balls.

And this game too was finished with a six and it was Aswin who did an ‘MS Dhoni’ and finished it in style.
