Ravi Shastri-Virat Kohli ditched me: Virender Sehwag on Indian head coach saga

This is a big statement and the timing is also vicious, just when India will head into an important series, this comes up

Virender Sehwag has for the first time opened up on not being selected as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. He has made a startling revelation about current Indian captain Virat Kohli and the current coach of the Indian team, Ravi Shastri. Once Anil Kumble had stepped down as coach of Indian cricket team, BCCI invited applications for the job. Virender Sehwag had also applied. The selection went down to the wire and Ravi Shastri got appointed as the head coach. But since taking over as India coach, he or should we say team India has hardly put a step wrong. India whitewashed Sri Lanka in all the three formats and are now ready to lock horns with Australia.

“I thought since they [BCCI top-brass] are requesting me, I should help them. I never thought of applying on my own nor I will ever apply in future. I also had a word with Virat Kohli, he asked me to go for it. It was only then that I applied. If you ask for my opinion, I would say that I was never interested,” Sehwag told India TV.

“When I was in England during the Champions Trophy [2017], I had asked Ravi Shastri that why he hasn’t applied for the post? Shastri then told me that he will not repeat the mistake which he had already made once,” Sehwag said.

“If Ravi Shastri had applied earlier, then I don’t think there would have been any chance of me applying for the post. I would have never applied.” added the ‘Nawab of Najafgarh’.

This is a big statement and the timing is also vicious, just when India will head into an important series, this comes up.
