Here's why Daler Mehndi's 'Tunak Tunak' is the best thing that happened to the fashion industry

Way before YouTube was even invented, Daler Mehndi broke the internet with Tunak Tunak tun. Here's why this music video is fashion goals even in 2017.

If you’ve been living under a rock for the last 20 years, or if you were born post 2005, here’s a little 101 on Daler Mehndi’s Tunak Tunak Tun: It’s high-art-ahead-of-its-time music video that featured no props, no sets, and no human beings other than four dancing Dalers professing their love to their sweetheart(s). There’s a reason people launched a petition last year which asked the Prime Minister to ‘Make Tunak Tunak Tun by Daler Mehndi the National Anthem of India’. Way before Pen Pineapple Apple Pen and Gangnam Style, before YouTube and Facebook existed, Tunak Tunak Tun was already a sensation shared on forums in the mid-2000s.

It’s the best thing that ever happened in the history of music, graphics and fashion. Why fashion, you ask? Let’s break it down for you:

What is fashion made of? Elements. Four basic elements: Color, Silhouette, line and texture. What is Tunak Tunak Tun made of? Elements, my dear Watson. It’s Elements. Four basic elements. Daler elements.

Air Daler

Earth Daler

Fire Daler

Water Daler

They all combine to form, what the fashion industry calls, ‘Supernova Daler’ (Don’t look at it directly for too long tho):

If this didn’t give you fashion goals in the 90s, you need to reevaluate who you are as a person. The green turban and yellow jacket paired with an all-black outfit are what the fashion industry refers to as the ‘peak of fashion’. Apart from Daler, there have been a rare few like Donatella Versace, Coco Chanel, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana who have reached the peak of fashion. We’re not sure of what happens there, but here’s a sneak peek of what awaits there in all its orange goodness :

Pairing magenta with all white, orange with all black and rocking a shiny all green outfit. Daler taught the fashion industry- If you’ve got it flaunt it. If you don’t get it just cover yourself up with bling and you’re good to go. The sheer savagery he displayed by playing with literally all the colors on the palette is what makes this music video the best thing that happened to the fashion industry. Ever.

They say, if you’ve been a true fashionista all your life, at the end of the tunnel you see Daler with his Canary yellow turban, giving your outfit a thumbs up:

Also, Daler hanging out with Deadmau5 in a Lamborghini is everything high fashion stands for. Take notes, boys. Take notes.
