Watch: Meenakshi Lekhi trolls Rahul Gandhi like a boss on OROP issue

We are happy that wit and humour isn't dead in politics

Rahul Gandhi is at the forefront fighting for the cause of ex-servicemen demanding proper implementation of OROP. The Congress vice president, who woke up to the issue after an ex-serviceman Ram Shanker Grewal committed suicide over OROP.

He forgot that it was his government that has been sitting on the demand for a decade now. While the Modi government tried implementing a watered down version of the demands made by jawans regarding One rank and one pension.

BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi, however, called out Gandhi’s hypocrisy on One-Rank Pension with a witty one-liner. Redefining one-rank-one-pension she said it for Congress the acronym means “One Rahul, one Priyanka”. Given Congress’ obsession with the Gandhi family, this quip isn’t unjustified. We are happy that wit and humour isn’t dead in politics.

However, BJP too has had its own share of faux pas and political incorrectness. While Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that a soldier would never commit suicide, VK Singh questioned Grewal’s mental stability.

The entire OROP row has now spiralled into a full blown political controversy. Both Congress and AAP have jumped into the issue rallying behind the veterans who have been unhappy with the government’s version of OROP implemented last year.

Public and media attention from the issue had slid off from the issue after Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar announced the implementation of OROP with certain caveats. However, not all the demands of ex-jawans were met. However, with Grewal’s suicide being politicised by all parties from TMC to AAP, the issue has come back to rattle the government.
