Valentine's day responsible for rapes and illegitimate children in India: RSS leader

RSS leader Indresh Kumar on Friday said that the Valentine's Day is responsible for rape, illegitimate children, and violence against women

RSS leader Indresh Kumar has claimed that the “western tradition” of Valentine’s days is to be blamed for the rape and illegitimate children in the country adding that Valentine’s day is also responsible for the violence against women in the country.

According to reports, Kumar made the statement while addressing RSS volunteers on the completion of a training programme in Jaipur. While speaking to the RSS volunteers, Kumar asserted that while love is “sacred” and “pious” in India, the western tradition of Valentine’s has created all the more problems. He further asserted that it is the “western culture” who has managed to commercialise love by giving birth to a festival.

“In India, love has been sacred and pious. It has been sung as the tales of Radha-Krishna, Laila-Majnu and Heer- Ranjha but the western culture commercialised love and gave birth to festival of Valentines’ day which is now responsible for problems like rape, illegitimate children and violence on women,” PTI quoted him as saying.

“Not only India, the entire world is facing this problem today,” he added. He went on to say that the RSS group “purifies” the soul and character of a person by imparting human values in them. Kumar has also suggested that a movement to “purify” souls should be undertaken for the betterment of the society.

“A movement should be run for purification of peoples’ soul so that the society and the nation can progress,” he said. While he blamed Valentines’s day for rapes in India, he slammed “evils” including untouchability and “casteism” in the country. He also slammed those the stone pelters and those who slaughter cows.  “Our defence forces are targeted in Kashmir. Those who pelt stones and slaughter cows have no human or moral rights,” Kumar said.
