As the Uttar Pradesh Assembly convened on Monday, Opposition leaders were seen blowing whistles and throw paper balls at Governor Ram Naik in the House. The chaos was witnessed as the House met for the first day of the Assembly session in the state. Opposition leaders were protesting against the law and order situation in the state. The marshals had to use files to dodge the paper balls thrown at them.

The uproar took place during the customary address of Governor Ram Naik to the joint sitting of the two Houses of the state legislature. A visibly annoyed Governor was seen shouting in the House saying: “Sara Uttar Pradesh dekh raha hai aap ko (the entire Uttar Pradesh is watching you).” The address is a note that is prepared by the government which highlights its achievements.

Slogans were also raised against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and his government. Despite Speaker Hridaya Narain Dixit having urged members in an all-party meeting to maintain decorum, Opposition members trooped into the Well of the House.

Heavy security arrangements are in place for the first session of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly after the new government has taken charge. It is for the first time that the proceedings were telecast live by Doordarshan. The decision to broadcast it live was taken after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in the state, claiming that it would benefit the people.

The opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) are not leaving any stone unturned to take on the Yogi Adityanath government on the law and order front.
