Delhi: Two dead as Class 12 student celebrating last exam runs his car over footpath

The accused has been apprehended by the police

In yet another incident of rash driving, a speeding car ran over people who were sleeping on a pavement near Delhi’s Kashmiri Gate area. At least two people were crushed to death and three others were injured in the mishap that took place at 5:45 am on Thursday morning at Delhi’s ISBT bus terminal. According to reports, the driver was a class 12 student, he has been apprehended by the police.

Reports also say that the driver was celebrating with three other friends in the Hyundai i20 since their class XII exams had ended. The occupants were students of prominent Delhi school.

“They were driving recklessly around 6 am. Near ISBT, they lost control and drove on a pavement where several people were sleeping,” Police told an English news channel.

The injured and the deceased persons are yet to be identified. The driver has been sent for medical examination to determine whether he was drunk at the time of the accident, PTI reported.

The menace of rash driving by teenagers is not new to the capital. Last year in April, a 17-year-old boy allegedly knocked dead a man with his father’s Mercedes in Civil Lines in Delhi, he was later charged with with culpable homicide  due to his past record of negligent driving.
