 Uttar Pradesh Elections 2017: EC orders FIR against Samajwadi Party, BSP for electoral malpractices

In an unprecedented move, the Election Commission on February 26 ordered a FIR against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister led Samajwadi Party (SP) and Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Moradabad and Agra for violating the EC norms ahead of UP elections.  According to several media reports, following a sting operation carried out by a news channel, the EC condemned the party workers for spending in excess for their electoral campaigns and also speaking openly about distributing money for the same to woo voters. EC has also ordered a FIR against Peace party candidates. Moradabad BSP candidate Ateeq Ahmed Siafi has, however, alleged political conspiracy. Read More here.

 Fake notes alert! SBI ATM in UP dispenses scanned copy of original Rs 2000 note

Looks like the fake notes menace is likely to continue for quite sometime now. After numerous incidents of ATM’s dispensing counterfeit currency notes, it is now being reported that a State Bank of India ATM has dispensed a scanned copy of original Rs 2000 note in Shahjahanpur area of Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, a man who withdrew Rs 10,000 from an SBI ATM received scanned copies of Rs 2000 notes. Additionally, the SBI branch officials refused to take the money and replace them with original notes creating uproar in the area. The police officials had to intervene to control the raging crowd who lashed out at the bank for cheating them with fake notes. Read More here.

Following the racist attack and hate crime in the Kansas state of the United States, the Indian students are reportedly having second thoughts about their plans to study in America. Sparking uproar over the recent Kansas shooting where an Indian techie,  Srinivas Kuchibhotla was shot dead by an American, some students in India are unsure whether they should go ahead with their plans of studying in Donald Trump-led United States.
