In a bid to promote education for girl child, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on June 19 announced free education for girls from Nursery to PhD in all the government schools and colleges of the state. The Punjab CM was reportedly fulfilling a promise to take steps towards women empowerment made during the election campaign.
According to news reports, the government will also provide the girls with free textbooks from the next academic session. Additionally suggested that the state government will also provide free wifi in primary schools and government colleges. They are also making efforts to promote the English language in the government schools and colleges across the state.
The Chief Minister further asserted that the government will give priority to women and senior citizens in the allotment of the funds in the state and that the government, which had already increased women reservation to 50 per cent in PRIs an ULBs, will reserve 33 per cent for women/girls in government jobs.
Apart from this, Amarinder Singh has also affirmed that the government will allot lands for burial purpose for Muslims and Christians. Free houses and low-cost houses to the people belonging to the weaker sections of the society were also among the promises made the new Punjab Chief Minister in Vidhan Sabha. The Punjab government is also looking to boost urban and rural development by taking steps to ensure better connectivity.
“Under the World Bank assisted project, we will complete the upgradation of selected roads to the tune of Rs 315 crore,” PTI quoted the Punjab CM as saying. An Additional 100 crore would be spent on road safety measure in Punjab.
Amarinder Singh also announced that the government was waiving off loans up to Rs 50,000 given to the SC community and other economically weaker sections. Other Financial benefits for to SCs, OBCs and minorities under various government schemes are also in the pipeline.
