Shashi Tharoor asks people to sign petition seeking an apology from British for atrocities carried in India under colonial rule

Petition will be considered for a debate in British parliament if it gets 100,000 signatures

Indians suffered several atrocities during British rule and the latter has never tendered an apology on it but this might change as former diplomat-turned-Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor has shared a petition which if gets 100,000 signatures then this topic will be debated in British parliament.

It is all started by Avinash Tharoor, who is Shashi Tharoor nephew and is based in London and if his petition gets the required number of signatures then the idea of giving an apology to India will at least be considered.

Shashi Tharoor shared the petition on his twitter page and wrote “In the interests of full disclosure, petition was created by my London-born British nephew”. He had earlier described the wrongdoings done by Britain as “historical amnesia”.

British government will respond to this petition if it gets 10,000 signatures and will consider it for a debate in British parliament if it gets 100,000 signatures.

He earlier had said that when India was under the rule of British, several Indian soldiers had to fight from the UK’s side during wars, even when India had got nothing to do with these wars.

Congress leader has always been vocal when it comes to talking about the atrocities done by the British empire. Shashi Tharoor gave a superb speech at the Oxford Union. He also written a book ‘Inglorious Empire’ which focuses on the cruelty suffered by Indians when the country was under the rule of British.
