Racial attacks continue in Greater Noida, Nigerian girl targetted by unidentified men

In yet another incident of racial attack, a Nigerian female student was  on Wednesday targetted by a mob in Greater Noida. She was pulled out of the cab and attacked by a group of people near Alstonia Apartments in Greater Noida.  The men beat her up when she tried to shout out for help. She informed the police which took her to a local hospital. The police said it is probing the matter, according to India Today.

The latest attack  is likely to cause huge embarrassment to the BJP government at Centre and state as both Uttar Pradesh Chief minister  Yogi Adityanath and External Affairs minister Sushma Swaraj have assured the safety of  Nigerian nationals and ordered a probe on the matter.

The spate of violence against African nationals started on Monday evening when a section of locals demanding arrest of five Nigerians in connection with the death of a teenager seemingly due to a drug overdose turned violent. As many as nine African nationals fell victim to the whims of the mob. Times of India reported that three Nigerians were attacked when they were crossing Pari Chowk, another Nigerian was beaten up near Jagat Farm. This is apart from the attack in Ansal Plaza. Claiming that the Greater Noida incident was a “hate crime”, an association of African students Tuesday demanded that they be provided adequate security in the country.

As many as five people were arrested on Tuesday . The police have filed cases against 600 unnamed persons and 44 named residents of the area. While in order to build trust among resident Africans, the senior police officers took out a flag march from Kasna police station to various parts of Greater Noida.
