Protect our daughters from the ill-effects of Triple Talaq: PM Modi appeals to Muslim reformers

PM Modi urged reformers in Muslim community to come forward to resolve the issue

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday urged the Muslim community to not see the issue of Tiple Talaq through political prism and rather look for amicable solutions.

Speaking at Delhi’s Vigyan Bhawan on the occasion of Basava Jayanti Modi said, ” “Main Muslim samaaj se aagrah karunga ki triple talaq ke mudde ko rajneeti ke daayre mein mat aane dijiye. Aap log aake aakar iska samaadhan kijiye (I request Muslim society not to politicise the triple talaq issue. Rather, come forward and solve the matter).”

Urging reformers in Muslim community to come forward to resolve the issue of triple talaq, Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi said, “Muslim samaaj se prabudh log aage aayenge, Muslim betiyon ke sath jo guzar rahi hai uske khilaf ladai ladenge, raasta nikalenge (Muslim reformers can come forward and fight against the suffering of Muslim daughters and find a way forward).”

Modi had earlier spoken on the triple talaq issue in April at the BJP National Executive Meet in Bhubaneswar. “He (Modi) talked about social justice. He said our Muslim sisters should also get justice. Injustice should not be done with them. Nobody should be exploited. We do not want that there is conflict within the Muslim community over this issue,” Union Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari quoted the PM as saying.

Supreme Court has been flooded with a flurry of pleas seeking constitutional validity of Triple Talaq. Even the central government told the apex court that it wants to put an end to the age-old practice and even posted a questionnaire whether uniform civil code be implemented in India.
