Patna Police took 4 hours, used 500 officers to arrest Pappu Yadav

Pappu Yadav has alleged that a conspiracy has been hatched by the government to kill him

It took Patna Police 500 men to arrest Madhepura MP and leader of the Jan Adhikar party (Loktantrik) Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav in a two-month case. The MP was arrested from his residence at Mandiri area in Patna after the police got an arrest warrant from the CJM’s court.

During the day, his party workers and supporters clashed with police during the day while they were staging a dharna over various issues including the proposed power hike and paper leak in BSSC examination. Police claimed that Yadav allegedly provoked his workers to attack the policemen. The police reached Yadav’s residence in Mandiri and took him into custody at 11:30 pm on Monday.

However, the arrest created law and order problem in the area where hundreds of supporters kept raising slogans in his favour. Yadav was taken to the Beur central jail of Patna only after midnight and a day full of chaos.

Yadav was arrested in a case of creating chaos and fighting with policemen with brickbats near the Kargil Chowk in Patna that was registered with Gandhi Maidan police station January 24.

He has recently been making several provocative statements against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his ruling alliance partner RJD chief Lalu Prasad. He even alleged that a conspiracy has been hatched by the government to kill him.

The MP had on Monday said: “Our workers heard two police officials talking about the government order to have me killed right at the rally venue. Is this how democracy functions? It is a citizens’ birthright to stage protests when democracy does not function properly.”
