MCD Election Results 2017: From crediting Modi to EVM allegations, here's what BJP, AAP & Congress leaders have to say

MCD Election Results 2017: As Narendra Modi wave sweeps Delhi here's how the BJP, AAP & Congress leaders are reacting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s magic seems to have returned in Delhi as the Bharatiya Janata Party has swept off the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) elections 2017 wiping out Aam Aadmi Party and Congress. While congress performed comparatively well and managed to get the second spot, Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP failed to perform and finished third in the civic polls.

While few leaders from the Congres party believed that they should have campaigned enough, AAP still seems to be in the denial mode. AAP has also come out to blame the EVMs for their embarrassing defeat in the MCD polls. However, BJP has affirmed that the opposition parties should be matured enough to accept people’s decision.

Here’s what the leaders from the AAP, Congress and the BJP said:

Nitin Gadkari, BJP: “Winning and losing is a part of democracy, one must accept mandate of the people with maturity”

Manoj Tiwari, BJP: “We will make Delhi a clean city in the next four months. It will be a hygienic, dirt and disease free city. The AAP has failed the people of Delhi. People are facing a lot of difficulties. Kejriwal must resign. People want him to resign,” he told a news channel

J Singh, BJP: BJP only viable option available to voter today&that is why BJP given mandate at every level; thank voter of Delhi

Manish Sisodia, AAP: BJP leaders had written books on EVM tampering ,now same leaders saying EVMs are fine.

Gopal Rai, AAP: This is not a Modi wave but EVM wave

Yogendra Yadav, AAP: We have zero expectations. But anything we get above that is a plus for us.We focussed on the issues on ground rather than talking about Kashmir or other things.

Ashutosh, AAP: Tell me one thing the BJP has done in Delhi. It has ruined the MCD. Still BJP wants to tell the whole world it is winning.

Sheila Dikshit, Congress: Congress should have campaigned aggressively. I did not campaign because no one asked me to.

Shashi Tharoor, Congress: Congratulations to BJP on MCD win, & congrats also to Congress or vast improvement from 9.6% in 2015. Revival has begun.

Ajay Maken, Congress: Take responsibility for defeat and I am going to resign as Delhi Congress President. For 1 year I will not take up any post in the party, will work as a party worker.
