BJP accuses ex-PM Manmohan Singh of helping Vijay Mallya with his loans

"From where did Mallya procure the funds? Did sinking ship (Congress) helped sinking airlines (Kingfisher)?"

Taking a dig on the Congress party, the Bhartiya Janata Party accused former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh of helping the loan defaulter and former liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya, on January 30.

Citing a report in front of the media, BJP accused the former UPA government of helping Vijay Mallya with the facilitation of the loans after he allegedly wrote to Manmohan Singh and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the year 2011 and 2013.

Alleging accusations on Congress, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said,”From where did Mallya procure the funds? Did sinking ship (Congress) helped sinking airlines (Kingfisher)?”

The letters showed by Patra as evidence, allegedly requested that loans to Vijay Mallya’s defunct Kingfisher Airlines from a consortium of banks be speeded up.

According to the media reports, Manmohan Singh and Chidambaram will be addressing the media later today but it is not known whether they will respond to the allegations.

Vijay Mallya moved to Britain in March 2016 in the middle of efforts by a group of banks to recover nearly 9,000 crores in unpaid loans to Kingfisher airlines.

Indian agencies have since made several attempts to bring back the businessman, who faces warrants in courts. While Mallya has said he is living in “forced exile”.

Recently, Vijaya Mallya targeted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Security Exchange Board of India (SEBI) for the charges imposed on him.

Vijay Mallya, through his twitter account, has attacked both the central agencies for imposing forgery charges on him. The ex-liquor tycoon, who fled away from India without paying his loans, has dragged the Indian media too and asked them the same question.
