Prior to this, she was working in Abu Dhabi. Zara Sheika says that this job in Kerala MNC is like a dream come true. Earlier, she has worked in the HRD department of various organisations

Zara Sheikha is indeed an inspiration for many, as she becomes the first transgender woman from Kerala to get a job in a multinational company. Her story tells us that whatever challenges might come your way, you should always stay strong. She says that her friends also have a role to play in her success as they always supported her. This week on Thursday, she landed a job as an HR Executive in UST Global one of the famous MNC’s in Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram.

Prior to this, she was working in Abu Dhabi. It was two years ago when she disclosed her transgender identity. Zara Sheikha says that this job for her is like a dream come true. Earlier, she has worked in the HRD department of various organisations. Zara Sheikha majored in Botany from Kerala University.

“After I returned from Abu Dhabi in August 2016, I attended many interviews in various firms. Though I could clear the interview nobody was ready to accommodate me as a transgender. I was done pretending to be male, so I wanted to work somewhere, which accepted me as I am. That is how my friend Prajit helped me get a job in UST Global. They said they were ready to give me a job if I passed three rounds of interview,” said Zara.

But her journey was not easy, Zara recalls those times when she was harassed and was called by different names. She said that she does not want to think about those bitter experiences.

On her experience with the UST Global, Zara Sheikha said that “When I went to the office the first day, I had a sinking feeling as to how others would look at me. Breaking all those pre-conceived notions, they were happy to accommodate me and they all respected my identity. The company also informed me that I could use the ladies washroom and toilets, which according to me is a great acceptance”.
