Narendra Modi vs Manmohan Singh: Social media fight over who cares for Jawans more?

Narendra Modi interacted with Indian Army and ITBP jawans serving along Indo-China border in Himachal Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday celebrated Diwali with the Indian Army and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) jawans deployed along the Indo-China border in Sumdo. He interacted with the soldiers and even exchanged sweets with them.

However, some on social media were quick to question the PM’s gesture towards the soldiers protecting our borders. Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh took a jibe at Modi with this tweet.

On the other hand, Drunk Vinod Mehta, a parody account took potshots at the PM, posting a picture of former prime minister Manmohan Singh and recalling how Modi’s predecessor had celebrated with the soldiers without publicising it. The post also hailed the former prime minister’s initiatives towards the One Rank One Pension (OROP).

Modi also paid tribute to the soldiers during his Mann Ki Baat address, hailing their bravery and paying tributes to their sacrifice. Since the Indian Army’s surgical strike along LoC on September 29, Modi has been praising soldiers at various rallies and events.

During a rally in Himachal Pradesh few days ago, the prime minister had compared the army’s surgical strike to those counter-terror operations conducted by Israel in the past.
