Baba Ramdev stands vindicated after PM Narendra Modi's announcement on Rs 500, 1000 notes

Baba Ramdev in June had expressed dissatisfaction with the Narendra Modi government over its efforts to crack down on black money.

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement on crackdown against black money and corruption, the happiest person on the planet was yoga guru Baba Ramdev. The government announced scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes from midnight. He said new notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 will be issued to the people. The PM said the move was meant to crack down on corruption and black money.

“I would like to congratulate PM Modi on making such a good decision, on black money,” the yoga guru told reporters.

It should be noted that Ramdev in June had expressed his dissatisfaction against the Narendra Modi government over the black money issue, claiming that the Centre’s moves were ineffective. He had also expressed dissent on inaction over the investigations into scams worth more than Rs10,000 crore which came to fore during the UPA regime. But today, all his concerns seemed to have been put to rest.

Recently at the Express Adda, he had endorsed the Narendra Modi government’s Digital India initiative, claiming it would help in putting a check on corruption and help nab those hiding black money. Nevertheless, Ramdev had expressed hope that PM Modi will help bring black money to India.

Ramdev has been raising the issue of black money and corruption since long time. He had openly supported Modi during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He along with his supporters had carried out an extensive campaign to help the then BJP prime ministerial candidate to win the elections.
