Watch: This 20-year-old girl from Jammu is winning the internet with her melodious voice

Though Jaspreet is not sure about her future plans, the public response to her videos is making her think of the possibility to join the music industry

Her soul-grabbing voice has taken the social media by storm. Within hours of uploading just two song clips, Jaspreet Kaur, a 20-year-old woman from Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, is the new singing sensation online.

The doe-eyed beauty, pursuing Bachelors of Arts from Government Degree College Kathua, never thought even in her wildest imagination that her amateur video, which was shot in the classroom during recess, would one day break the internet with thousands of views, shares, and likes overnight.

In fact it was her friend Priya Dhingra, who persuaded Jaspreet to record a few song clips on her smartphone and upload them online. “I did it on Priya’s persuasion as she asked me to post my songs online. But I never expected to get such overwhelming response,” a visibly excited Jaspreet told InUth during an exclusive interview.

In one of the clips that went instantly viral, she sang the romantic number Sans Mein Teri Sans Mili from the movie Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The other clip filmed in black and white mode is Milay Ho Tum Kumko Badhe Nasibon Say.

A natural singer, Jaspreet never learned music from any teachers. But she loves singing since childhood while her favorite singers include iconic Lata Mangeshkar, Shreya Ghoshal, and Sonu Nigam.

Daughter of a Police officer Harpaul Singh, Jaspreet comes from a devout Sikh family. Her mother is a homemaker and elder brother a banker.  “Love for Punjabi” runs in her blood as she has chosen the language as one of the subjects for graduation.

Though Jaspreet says she is “still aimless” as to what to do ahead in life, the public response to her videos is making her think of the possibility to join the music industry. “Yeah, of course, let’s see.”

But then did any of Bollywood personalities inspire her towards singing? “I am a leader, not a follower,” she replies.

Given the way social media overwhelmingly admired her talent, she is likely to be a star while people will long for her autograph. Isn’t it? Well, the reply from the millennial girl comes with a smile: “Autograph ka Zamana gaya Abhi selfie ka Zamana Hai!
