Pakistan releases Indian soldier Chandu Babulal Chavan who crossed LoC on 29 Sept

On 29 September, 22-year-old Sepoy Chandu Babulal Chavan had accidentally crossed the border and had been captured by the Pakistan army.

Pakistan on January 21 released the Indian soldier Chandu Babulal Chavan who inadvertently crossed the Line of Control on 29 September 2016. Chavan crossed over to the Pakistani side with his rifle around noon on September 29, hours after DGMO Lt General Ranbir Singh had announced the surgical strikes by Indian special forces on terrorist launch pads across the LoC.

According to the Indian Army, on 29 September, the night when India carried out surgical strikes across the LoC in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), 22-year-old Sepoy Chandu Babulal Chavan had accidentally crossed the border and had been captured by the Pakistan army.

According to the media reports,Sepoy Chavan, who hails from Maharashtra and was posted with 37 Rashtriya Rifles at Mendhar along the LoC in in Jammu and Kashmir, to be returned at 3 PM via Wagah Border in Punjab.

After the sepoy was released, his brother expressed his gratitude towards the Indian government and the Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre. He said,”We are thankful to the Central Government and MoS Defence Subhash Bhamre ji & others for their efforts to bring him back.”
