J&K: 2 army jawans, 4 terrorists killed in gunbattle in Kulgam district

Some of the militants who sustained injuries during the encounter have managed to flee.

At least 2 security personnel and 4 Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed in an encounter in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on February 12. Initial reports suggest that the encounter is still underway between security forces and terrorists in Yaripora area of Kulgam district. The militants were hiding in Nagbal Frisal area of Kulgam.

Army sources informed have told ANI that different unconfirmed figures on casualties of security forces & terrorists are doing rounds. Some of the militants who sustained injuries during the encounter have managed to flee. Security officials have cordoned off the area and efforts are being made to nab the terrorists. Several media reports suggested that the army launched the attack after receiving a tip-off from the police.

Meanwhile, a Pakistani spy has been detained by CID & Border Intelligence Police, near India-Pakistan border in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan. A joint interrogation is underway against the spy.

Earlier on February 4, two militants were killed on a highway in the Sopore area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. One of them was a local Hizbul Mujahideen commander and the other a foreigner. Additionally, a government employee was killed in a counter-insurgency operation, launched in the month of December, in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

Assadullah Kumar, working in J&K Fisheries Department, died due to gunshot injuries at Chancer area of Kulgam district where security forces, including army, had launched a counter-insurgency operation.
