Encouraged by the controversial case of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, a 21-year-old law student came forward to register a complaint against a 58-year-old self-proclaimed godman for allegedly sexually assaulting her. The girl claimed that the godman, identified as Kaushlendra Falahari Maharaj, who fairly enjoys a strong fan base, raped her on the pretext of making her a judge.
The police stated that the incident took place on August 7 when the girl went to offer the first stipend she received as a token of respect to the godman. The woman and her family, who hail from Chhattisgarh, have reportedly been following Kaushlendra Falahari Maharaj for decades. The girl had reportedly managed to get an internship in a law firm through the godman’s recommendation and she was only visiting the ashram to offer her first stipend to him.

“The family members of the victim have been devotees of the Maharaj for the past two decades. Recently, the woman, who is a law student, joined an internship at a company through the godman’s recommendation. She came to Alwar to give the Maharaj Rs. 3,000 that she got as a stipend,” a police officer stationed at Aravali Vihar police station was quoted as saying. The police have reportedly not been able to take the godman’s statement as he has been admitted to a private hospital.
The godman had also threatened her to not talk about the incident to anyone, telling her that he was an influential personality. Additionally, the girl has affirmed that she was motivated to file a complaint against the godman after watching the conviction of Ram Rahim.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted by a special CBI court for raping 2 of women devotees in 2002 and was sentenced to 20 years in jail.
