To increase the usage of public transport and to reduce the pollution, the central government is planning to introduce the double decker luxury buses to link cities like Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi- Jaipur and Delhi-Ludhiana. Also, these luxury buses will run on alternative fuel, such as methanol which can be easily manufactured in India.

As per a report in the Times of India, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari during an event said, “Plans are underway to introduce Double decker fleet of luxury buses to link cities like Delhi-Mumbai, Delhi- Jaipur and Delhi-Ludhiana. The fleet will be air conditioned with services that include hostesses (on board)… and I assure you charges will be much economic, less than present as these will run on alternative fuel”.

The move to run these Volvo on the alternative fuel is taken to promote clean fuel and to cut down on money spent by India every year on importing fuels. The step has also been taken by the government to decrease the number of private vehicles.
