Delhi to soon have women-exclusive parking lanes

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to reserve a lane exclusively for women at all parking lots in south and west Delhi.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to reserve a lane exclusively for women at all parking lots in south and west Delhi. The women-exclusive lanes will make the first row of the parking.

According to a Times of India report, Prem Shankar Jha, South MCD deputy commissioner, has said that since the women face difficulties in the crowded vehicle parking centres of the city, the MCD has launched a mobile app – “We-Park” – to help the fairer sex.

Notably, the We-Park app will have several buttons that will enhance women’s safety in the city. For example, in case of car breakdown, a woman can push a button on the app to alert the nearest MCD parking caretaker for help.

Similarly, if someone is chasing or stalking a woman, she contact the police through the app. The app will also provide time to time alerts about traffic situation in the city.

A new facility has also been introduced via the app where a woman can book a parking space for her vehicle in advance. She can give a missed call on toll-free number 7070707047 through the app to book the parking space.

Two OTPs (one-time password) of entry and exit received on the user’s mobile phone will do the job, suggested the TOI report.
