Manipuri student found dead in JNU hostel, probe on

The body drew attention when a foul smell started emanating from his room

Jawaharlal Nehru University is back in news for wrong reasons. The body of a student from Manipur was found in a hostel room at the university on Tuesday. Identified as JR Philemon, he was pursuing his PhD on the subject of West Asia. He had not been seen for the last three days.

The body drew attention when a foul smell started emanating from his room. The student in the neighbouring room called other students and security and forcefully opened door.

Investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of death. Preliminary investigations have not ruled out the possibility of a suicide. His body has been sent for an autopsy.

JNU has been witnessing huge protests since October 15 since another student, Najeeb Ahmed, had gone missing following a brawl in his hostel. It has been over a week and Ahmed is still missing. Police has announced a reward of 1 lakh for anyone who gives information about him.
