Andhra Pradesh: 20 dead as lorry rams into electric post in Chittoor

At least 10 persons were admitted at Ruia Hospital at Tirupati with serious injuries

At least twenty people were killed in a road accident and subsequent electrocution on Friday noon after a lorry  ran over  hit an electric pole in a crowded market area at Yerpedu of Chittor district. The speeding truck lost control after it tried to avoid collision with another vehicle and hit an electric pole. While six people were mowed down by truck , while others got electrocuted by the snapped live wires of capsized pole, reports The Hindu. Earlier it was thought to be a road mishap when the local people rushed to help the victims, many succumbed to the electric shock.  At least 10 persons were admitted at Ruia Hospital at Tirupati with serious injuries. The truck was en-route to Tirupati.

PTI reported that Deputy Chief Minister N China Rajappa expressed shock over the incident and directed that the injured to be extended necessary medical treatment.  Meanwhile, YSR Congress leader Jagan Mohan Reddy has also condoled the loss of lives in the mishap. He has demanded that rescue efforts be expedited and immediate medical attention be provided to the injured.
