After UP, Jaipur to launch its own Anti-Romeo squad. But there's a twist!

In a first, Jaipur is all set to launch its own version of Anti-Romeo squads after Uttar Pradesh. Here's all you need to know

In a first, Rajasthan is all set to come up with its own kind of Anti-Romeo squad days after Uttar Pradesh set up Anti-Romeo squad to check eve-teasing and harassment. However, these anti-Romeo squads in Jaipur are not going to be that in Uttar Pradesh.

According to a report in Indian Express, Jaipur is gearing up to launch anti-Romeo squads which will constitue 26 women police officials who will be lodged in various parts of the city for women safety.
“We have constituted 26 teams of two policewomen each who will be deputed around the city to specifically deter and prevent crimes against women, such as eve-teasing,” DCP, Jaipur Headquarters, Gaurav Srivastava told the daily.

He further said that they are going to post the teams in various places depending on the time on specific spots that include markets and public areas in a bid to avoid an unanticipated or an unpredicted incident that may threaten womab safety. The report suggested that the police teams have also figured out “street harassment” spots in the city where the chances of harassment is higher. “We have identified about 200 ‘street harassment’ points in Jaipur where the likelihood of such harassment is higher. More points will be added with time. The women will work in two eight-hour shifts from 7 am to 11 pm,” the daily quoted Rajasthan Police Service (RPS) officer Kamal Shekhawat.

The women police teams will be taking rounds in these identified areas and will be accompanied with scooters, arms and batons. They will also be carrying first-aid box with them. The scooters that these policewomen will be taking along have been donated by Hero MotoCorp Limited. They also believe that these Anti-Romeo squads were nothing like the ones in UP adding that they prefer to call them “woman patrols.”
