Behind the scenes: Alia Bhatt is a DOP in Dear Zindagi, a rare job for women in the film industry [WATCH]

Alia Bhatt in Gauri Shinde's Dear Zindagi wear spectacles, checkered shirts, carries messy hair and spends her time deciding perfect camera angles for shots. Yes, a woman can be a DOP.

Red Chillies Entertainment, the co-producers of Dear Zindagi, recently posted a video titled Making of Alia Bhatt as DOP. The video shows the leading lady of the film — Alia, getting into her character of Kaira. It is a compilation of behind the scenes moments of Alia from the sets of the film. The close to two and a half minute video focuses on the transformation of a rather fun and chirpy Alia into a serious DOP.

Chunks of the video have director Gauri Shinde and Alia’s co-actors describing her and revealing a few offbeat incidents from the shoot of the film. One of the highlights of the video is Shah Rukh Khan, who is trying to tell Alia how to make a scene.

Dear Zindagi, which has been deemed a simple, positive take on life, stars SRK as a life mentor to Alia. The various takes reveal how the film will depict the journey of Kaira as she evolves from being a dispirited girl to a young woman who starts loving her life. This new behind the scenes video also talks about something worth taking notice of. It gives us a slight glimpse into the life of a DOP, the person who is responsible for the principle photography of the entire film. Alia can herself be seen pointing out the difficulties of being a DOP and how demanding this job is. A special mention to the fact that a DOP has to carry a giant camcorder on their shoulder throughout the filming process let alone deciding the angles of the shots and minutely assessing each shot as it comes.

Dear Zindagi is making waves for being a positive and motivational film. Another thing that is worth observing is Alia’s character in the film. DOP is usually considered a job fit for men in the industry. Alia playing such a character in the lead in a mainstream film definitely roots for appreciation for writer Gauri Shinde.
