Duvvada Jagannadham vs Tubelight at Box Office: Allu Arjun beats Salman Khan on the opening day battle

Salman Khan was defeated by Allu Arjun at the Bx Office as the latter's movie Duvvada Jagannadham aka DJ earned more than Tubelight on first day

The first day all India collections of Salman Khan’s Bollywood film Tubelight and Allu Arjun’s Duvvada Jagannadham are out and surprisingly the latter has emerged victorious in the Box Office battle. While Salman Khan’s Tubelight earned Rs 21.50 crore on the first day, Allu Arjun’s movie opened to a thundering response at the Box Office by minting Rs. 30.50 crore. The Allu Arjun-Pooja Hegde starrer earned Rs 24 crore in Andhra Pradesh / Nizam regions becoming one of the biggest Telugu openers of recent times.

Duvvada Jagannadham dominated the Karnataka Box Office as well by minting Rs 4.5 crore across the state. The film is said to have collected Rs. 2 crores from rest of India markets including Tamil Nadu Box Office. With this Duvvada Jagannadham has emerged as the biggest opener of Allu Arjun’s career.

While the numbers are quite celebratory for Allu Arjun’s movie, the same cannot be said about Salman Khan’s much-anticipated movie. Tubelight performed below expectations at the ticket counters. Despite being a solo release and the movie which was touted as this year’s Eid gift from Salman, Tubelight failed to leave a mark. What’s more shocking is that Tubelight has taken lower collections that Salman Khan’s 2012 Eid release, Ek Tha Tiger. The average reviews and the absence of typical ‘Salman Khan mannerism’ have worked against the film. This is probably why the movie did not pick up in the evening shows. It will be interesting to see how the film will perform on weekends followed by Eid Holidays.

On the Box Office front, Allu Arjun won the opening day battle over Salman Khan.

Notably, Salman Khan’s Tubelight got a wider release than SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Conclusion. by releasing in 4350 screens across India. Abroad Tubelight released in 1200 screens, bringing the total to 5500 screens. Even such a wide releases did not translate to Box Office figures. Now it is left to be seen how Tubelight fares at the Box Office in the coming days.
