Remember Sakshi Tanwar and Ram Kapoor's intimate scene from Bade Acche Lagte Hain? Ekta Kapoor calls it her biggest mistake

Ekta Kapoor during an interaction explained that Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar's famous lovemaking scene from Bade Acche Lagte Hain shouldn't have been shot

Ekta Kapoor has given viewers something to cherish over the years. The serials which her Balaji Telefilms helmed became a hit and started many conversations in the households. Most of the serials that Ekta Kapoor made followed the ‘sanskaari’ guidelines barring two incidents- the intimate scene between Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and a similar steamy scene in Yeh Hai Mohabbatein featuring Divyanka Tripathi and Karan Patel.

These two scenes started conversations and it was said that Ekta Kapoor wishes to break free from the set norms of her. But according to Ekta Kapoor, including those sequences in her serials was her biggest mistake. Ekta said the ratings of the show dipped drastically. Speaking to a leading daily, Ekta said, “Before the lip lock scene we were rating 6 and 5 and suddenly after the scene the show’s TRP went down to 2. However, the same episode on digital platform locked 10 lakh views. Showing the love making scene of Ram and Sakshi in Bade Acche Lagte Hain was my biggest mistake.”

Ekta’s statement hints that Indian audience is not ready to accept such steamy scenes in their serials. They are still used to see sanskaari stories laden with kitchen politics, to put it nicely. Seeing what happens inside a bedroom between a married couple makes them raise eyebrows.

The 42-year-old celebrity added that on TV conservative and palatable content works. “Because sometimes we get embarrassed when we are watching certain kind of content with our parents,” she explained. Ekta Kapoor narrated an incident of her childhood when she went to see City Of Angels with her father, because of the title of the movie. However, she felt embarrassed later when Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage started making. She added, “That doesn’t mean sex is bad. We will prefer watching it when we are alone and not with the entire family.”

Well, it is hard to disagree with Ekta on this. Sex and intimacy are not topics Indian families prefer to discuss on dinner.
