Rishi Kapoor blasts Rahul Gandhi after his 'dynasty' speech, asks him to stop bulls***ting people

Rahul Gandhi's speech at the University of California brought him at the receiving end of ire of veteran actor Rishi Kapoor

Rahul Gandhi’s speech on dynasty politics at the University of California, Berkeley, on Tuesday, September 12, might have sounded impressive (to some), but it clearly didn’t go down well with veteran actor, Rishi Kapoor. In the speech, the Congress Vice President spoke about how most of the political parties in the country relied on dynastic politics and also said that it was how India functioned. Citing the example of the Ambani family as well as saying that even Amitabh Bachchan’s son was a ‘dynast’, Rahul Gandhi said it was unfair to only blame him. Rahul’s views on dynasty did not go down well with Rishi Kapoor, who implied in a series of tweets that the former should have checked facts before saying anything.

At the University, Rahul said, “It’s a problem in all political parties in India. Most of the country runs like this, so don’t go after me, Akhilesh Yadav a dynast, Mr Stalin a dynast, Mr (Prem Kumar) Dhumal’s son a dynast, so don’t just go after me…Even Mr Abhishek Bachchan is a dynast, also Mr Ambani, that’s what happens in India.”

Seemingly taking offence over his statements, Rishi said that the Kapoor family of Bollywood had proved their worth over generations. He said that even though five generations of the family had worked in Bollywood, Kapoor family members were still chosen by the public on the basis of merit. Here’s what his tweet read:

When one Twitter user tried to remind Rishi Kapoor about the ‘privileges’ the actor was born with, Rishi got even more furious. Here is the Twitter exchange between them:

Rahul Gandhi’s speech at Berkeley also attracted a few reactions from his political rivals. Bhartiya Janta Party was quick to call Rahul Gandhi a ‘failed dynast’. The party said, “A failed dynast today chose to speak about his failed political journey in the US… the country (India) is not listening so he is speaking somewhere else.”

BJP was obviously expected to slam Rahul Gandhi’s speech, but no one thought that Rishi Kapoor would lose his cool over the speech. It looks like Ranbir Kapoor’s father took Gandhi’s statements at heart and felt forced to defend his family and the Bollywood over the term ‘dynasty’.
