Here's how neighbour Rajinikanth paid homage to Jayalalithaa at Rajaji Hall

Rajnikanth had once declared that "the reincarnation of (goddess) ashtalakshmi."

Superstar Rajnikanth on Tuesday paid his last respects to late Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa who passed away last night after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Rajnikanth was seen along with his family members including  wife Latha Rajinikanth, elder daughter Aishwaryaa and son-in-law Dhanush at the Rajaji Hall in Chennai to paying homage to the AIADMK chief.

Although Jayalalithaa and Rajnikanth have never really starred in any movies together, Rajnikanth was her neighbour in her Poes Garden residence. “Not just Tamil Nadu but the whole of India lost a brave daughter. May her soul rest in peace,” Rajnikanth posted on his Twitter page.

Dhanush also took to Twitter to express grief over her demise.
“#RIPAmma. The end of THE most inspirational era of Tamilnadu Politics. You leave behind a vast vacuum. #IronLady. #Shattered #empty #darkday,” he said on Twitter.

Years ago, in 1996, Rajnikanth had openly said, “Even God can’t save Tamil Nadu if Jayalalithaa is elected to power,” when DMK won the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections.

However, in 2006 Rajnikanth declared that Jayalalithaa was “the reincarnation of (goddess) ashtalakshmi.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also reached Chennai to pay his last respects to late J Jayalalithaa who passed away last night after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Not only Rajnikanth but stars including Amitabh Bachchan, Samantha, and Raveena Tandon mourned Jayalalithaa’s death on Twitter.
