MS Dhoni: The Untold Story unseats Rustom at Box Office, becomes 2nd top grosser this year

But it has not even collected half of what Sultan did

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput starrer MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is soon to end its run at the Box Office with the two big Diwali releases this year — Shivaay and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil — ready to conquer the cinema houses from the coming week. However, the Dhoni biopic has startled everyone and has become the second biggest Bollywood grosser of the year after Salman Khan’s Sultan.

The film, which features the journey of Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni had generated a lot of buzz. The young audiences extracted the maximum entertainment from te movie. Though a drop in its collection was recorded after criticism over the false incidents in the movie came to the fore.

With the total collection of Rs 129.50 crore at the Box Office, it has surged past Akshay Kumar’s Rustom which collected Rs 129 crore in its life-time run. The other films following the lead are Airlift at Rs 128 crore and Housefull 3 at Rs 107 crore. It is interesting to observe that out of the top five grossers of the year, three belongs to Khiladi Kumar.

The list goes like:

  • Sultan — Rs 300. 50 crore
  • MS Dhoni: The Untold Story — Rs 129. 50 crore
  • Rustom — Rs 129 crore
  • Airlift – Rs 128 crore
  • Housefull 3 — Rs 107 crore

Even after being the second top grosser of the year, MS Dhoni… has not been able to even reach half of Sultan’s moolah at the Box Office. Will Salman Khan emerge as the undisputed Box Office king this year?

The film that can challenge Salman’s wonder at the Box Office is Aamir Khan’s Dangal. Yes, there are two big films in the pipeline before DangalAe Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay. But none of them are likely to inch closer to Sultan’s collection.
