One person has been arrested for allegedly making death threats to filmmakers Mahesh Bhatt and his family including his wife Soni Razdan and daughter Alia Bhatt. The police officials arrested the man from Uttar Pradesh with the help of his mobile number and his account details.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt had recently revealed that he received a death threat from an unidentified caller who demanded a sum of Rs 50 lakh from him. At first, Bhatt thought of it as a prank call, but later he started receiving text messages as well. The caller told him to take his threats seriously and if Bhatt fails to pay the money then he will kill his daughter Alia Bhatt and wife Soni Razdan.

After receiving many texts and WhatsApp messages, Mahesh Bhatt immediately went to the police station and filed a FIR on March 1. Keeping in mind the seriousness of the whole matter, the case was transferred to the Mumbai Police’s Anti-Extortion Cell (ANC), who were said to investigate the matter further.

Bhatt had been asked to deposit Rs 50 lakhs in a Lucknow-based bank branch and the exact words of the caller were: If you fail to do so, I will fire several rounds of bullets in your daughter Alia and wife Soni.

If media reports are to be believed, Mahesh Bhatt had received this call from the same gang in the year 2014. After which a group of 13 people from some gang were arrested in November 2014 for the same.

Mahesh Bhatt also took to Twitter and confirmed about the death threat call. “A bolt from the blue in the form of an extortion call & threat to my family was nipped in the bud by the MH & UP police in tandem.Gratitude,” he tweeted.

The police launched a manhunt soon after they received a complaint.
