The 89th Academy Awards have announced the list of nominees. The awards, also known as the Oscars, will honour the best films of 2016. The ceremony is to be hosted by comedian and talk-show host Jimmy Kimmel and will be held on February 26 at 8:30 p.m. EST at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The awards are presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) in 24 categories.

Earlier, Hollywood actor and martial artist Jackie Chan was rewarded with an Honorary Oscar during the 8th Annual Governors Awards ceremony held on November 12, 2016, along with Anne V. Coates, Lynn Stalmaster, Frederick Wiseman.

This year, the world has been going gaga over one feature film in particular- La La Land. After owning the Golden Globes with seven nominations (and seven wins), La La Land went on to be nominated in 11 categories at the BAFTAs. Now, it has received 14 nominations in total for the Oscars which in itself is a huge achievement. It is followed by Arrival and Moonlight, each of which earned 8 nominations. Dev Patel’s Lion, based on the true story of Indian man Saroo Brierley, earned a total of 6 nominations.
