Ram Gopal Varma seems to be suffering from acute foot-in-mouth disease nowadays which is something that often plagues those who have too much free time on their hands. He misses no opportunity to become everybody’s favourite punching bag due to his penchant for thoroughly insensitive comments. A few days ago, he called Tiger Shroff a ‘bikini babe’, sparking righteous rage and controversy online.
On Wednesday, the Sarkar 3 director lost whatever little credibility he has by calling the Baaghi actor ‘a woman, a transgender’ in a telephonic conversation with Vidyut Jammwal. After the Commando actor shared the recording of the conversation on his Twitter account, RGV apologised to both the stars and swore in the name of his mother, Hollywood filmmaker Steven Spielberg and megastar Amitabh Bachchan not to drink vodka again. A promise nobody quite believes.
This is not the first time when RGV has passed unsavory remarks against actors from the tinsel town. Last month, he posted an obscene tweet about actor Sunny Leone on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The sexist comment led to the filmmaker being chargesheeted and the fraternity of the film workers union calling for his boycott. Whatever little goodwill his films had earned him, have been steadily dropping thanks to his constant, crazy, OCD-like tweeting. Even down south he has stirred up trouble after his tweet on Malayalam actor Mammootty sparked an outrage. But it was nothing compared to the uncalled for tweet he posted against Tamil icon Rajinikanth, calling him a bad looker. Sample this tweet by the director:

In his memoir Guns & Thighs which hit the bookstores last year, the filmmaker made revelations which grabbed eye balls for all the wrong reasons. About Urmila Matondkar, who worked with him in classics like Satya, Rangeela, Kaun and others, Varma wrote:
Varma’s comments came at a time when Urmila got married and people questioned the timing of the book’s release. Add to this, he dedicated an entire chapter on Nisha Kothari (now Priyanka) who worked in his film Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag (which sunk faster than the Titanic), he had this to say:
Varma is currently going through a lean patch in his career as most of his films in the recent times have failed to set the cash registers ringing. Although his films continue to earn critical acclaim due to his storytelling skills, but he has not been able to bring the crowd to the theatres.
A lot is currently at stake for the filmmaker as his political thriller Sarkar 3 hits the theatres on May 12. We are unsure whether an ensemble cast comprising Amitabh Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Amit Sadh, Ronit Roy and Yami Gautam will be able to rake in moolah and bring much-needed relief to hit-starved director. Hence, it is quite obvious for him to be frustrated but to vent out on a platform that’s open to all, that too on people who have done nothing to provoke him, is inexcusable. The offensive remarks that he has made against the film stars reek of acute sexism, some under deep-rooted issues, and perhaps an addiction problem.
All we can do at this point of time is pray that someone takes his phone away for a bit. RGV, may better sense prevail.
