Zaira Wasim faces fresh protest in Srinagar, slogan raised, effigy burnt

According to media reports, the protesters, with their faces covered, burnt the effigy of the actress and raised slogans against her. The protesters were also seen waving Pakistan flag.

Fresh protest erupts in Srinagar on January 20 against Dangal child artist Zaira Wasim following her meet with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti earlier this month.

According to media reports, the protesters, with their faces covered, burnt the effigy of the actress and raised slogans against her. The protesters were also seen waving Pakistan flag.

Earlier this month, Zaira Wasim who played the role of young Geeta Phogat, found herself embroiled in controversy after meeting  Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

Later,  Zaira issued an apology after being trolled on social media post her meeting with the J&K CM and said that she had no idea why the matter had become such a big issue, adding that she had apologised only because she did not want to hurt anyone’s feelings.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended his support to the Dangal girl, Zaira Wasim by saying that a 16-year-old girl should not be made to apologise just for meeting the state’s Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

Earlier today,  Zaira had a Twitter spat with Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Vijay Goel. The BJP leader tweeted painting of a woman wearing a burqa, tagging Zaira Wasim in the comment:  “This painting tells a story similar to @zairawasim, our daughters are breaking the cages of oppression. More power to our daughters! ”

This comment irked her and she said: “Women in hijab are beautiful and free.” She also added: “Sir, with due respect to you I feel I must disagree. I request you not to connect me to such a discourteous depiction.”
