Why Kangana Ranaut's snarky 'nepotism' remark on Karan Johar should not be taken lightly

Kangana Ranaut's snide remark accusing Karan Johar of nepotism needs to be given a serious thought. Here's why

Kangana Ranaut is currently promoting Vishal Bharadwaj’s Rangoon. A fearless actor, the janbaaz Julia does not shy away from voicing her opinion, even if the person at the crosshairs happens to be a bigwig like Karan Johar.

Recently, the three-time National Award winner appeared on Koffee With Karan alongside Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. The show helmed by the filmmaker is known for its share of explosive revelations and controversies. During the conversation, Kangana reportedly said that if she wrote a memoir in future, she would ensure that a chapter on nepotism would be written by Johar.

Nepotism is not a new evil in the film industry. No matter how talented you are, it becomes increasingly difficult for you to get a break into the film industry without a solid backing from a leading stakeholder. If you look at major Bollywood debuts in the past few years, how many new faces who made it big did not have anyone in the B-town? We are not demeaning the likes of Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan who have proven themselves with their sheer hard work.

But there is a question? Why have the stars launched by his production house happen to be scions of established A-listers? Why hasn’t he given a break or revived the chance of an actor who does not have a film background? Recently, Johar issued a statement saying if Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan makes his debut, he will play a major role in it. Can’t SRK alone launch his son under his own banner Red Chillies Entertainment?

All of us are aware of Kangana’s rise to stardom. Hailing from a family which has no connections in the film industry, she rose against odds to carve a name for herself. An actor par excellence whose name is enough to set cash registers ringing, her statement should not be laughed off. After all, she has remained fearless and not moved away from her stand on the infamous controversy surrounding Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik is also a close friend of Johar and has worked in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and Agneepath.

Besides Kangana, now Govinda has also hit out at Johar, accusing him of openly indulging in groupism. Well, does it need more explanation? It is clear that the comments will not sound pleasing to the ears of Johar who has never shied away from declaring his undying friendship with several A-list stars.

Whether you agree with Kangana’s statements or not, it is up to you.
