Are you ready to witness the very first Bollywood trailer of the New Year? Well, the trailer of Vishal Bhardwaj’s romantic drama Rangoon is all set for a January release. Set during World War II, the film stars Kangana Ranaut, Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles.
Rangoon is special in many ways. Firstly, you will get to see Shahid, Kangana and Saif together on the silver screen and secondly because of Vishal’s collaboration with Sajid Nadiadwala and Viacom18 Motion Pictures. The movie is shot mostly in the remote and unexplored places, which will give a feel of the 40s.
Kangana, who plays the role of a poster girl named Julia is the highlight of the film. It is also being said that her character is inspired by Fearless Nadia from the Huntervali. In an interview with Pinkvilla, a source close to the film said:
Julia is not Fearless Nadia but is a ’40s diva in her own right who came into films via theater and as was the convention at the time, went to the front to entertain soldiers fighting the Second World War. That’s where Julia who is in love with a producer, played by Saif Ali Khan, meets Shahid Kapoor’s character and loses her heart again, bringing grit, glamour and romance into this intense war drama.
And while talking to Neha Dhupia on her show #NoFilterNeha, Kangana talked about Rangoon, her character Julia and the challenges she faced during the shooting of the film. She said:
When you’re thrown out of your comfort zone, initially it’s intimidating. It doesn’t really matter if you’re a star or not a star. It just depends on the kind of project that you choose. For Rangoon, we were taken to these remote valleys of Arunachal Pradesh. There were literally no villages, nothing, not even restrooms. I was changing clothes behind rocks and my own people would just cover me. Everyone was, so was Shahid Kapoor. There was nothing, so what do you do?
With such an amazing star cast and Vishal’s direction, Rangoon is going to be one of 2017’s big hits and we just can’t wait to watch the trailer. Rangoon is scheduled for release on February 24, 2017.
