Not all brown girls are same: Priyanka Chopra to western media

Priyanka Chopra feels that foreign media should be more responsible in referring to Indian actresses as not everyone of the same skin color is the same person

Priyanka Chopra is not happy with the western media after they mistook Deepika Padukone as her at the recently concluded Met Gala event. Reacting to this goof-up, Priyanka Chopra said that everyone should understand that not all brown girls are the same. Deepika Padukone had earlier slammed the incident and said it reeked of racism.

Reacting strongly to the incident, Priyanka supported Deepika’s statement. Calling the incident unfair she said, “It was a serious case of ignorance. It’s not right, every brown girl does not look the same.”

“Indians constitute one-fifth of the world’s population and the representation of our prolific film industry in world cinema is our responsibility. We have to put ourselves out there,” the Baywatch star added.

However, Priyanka has also praised American media for accepting her and said they are wonderful with her. She further added, “Just because I am a big star in India, doesn’t mean I should be treated like one in every country. I haven’t seen the American media as accepting of many Indian actors as they are with me.”

Earlier, when Deepika was asked to comment on the incident, she said, “It’s not just me being offended on this. Everyone should be offended. It is not just ignorance, it is being racist. 2 people of the same skin colour are not the same. You should educate them and not encourage them.”

This is not the first incident when international paparazzi has mistaken Indian actresses. Recently in the on-going Cannes Film Festival, Neerja actress Sonam Kapoor was also mistaken as Deepika Padukone. Both Sonam and Deepika made their presence felt at the Cannes this year.

An Ameican photo agency goofed up Sonam as Deepika and captioned her photo as “Indian actress Deepika Padukone arrives for the film The Meyerowitz Stories in competition at the 70th Annual International Film Festival in Cannes, France on May 21, 2017.”

However, Sonam is yet to react on it.
