Here's why Varun Dhawan was slapped and called a 'disgrace to the family'

Varun Dhawan was once slapped and also termed a disgrace to his family. Was he really at fault?

Varun Dhawan is known for his jovial nature and bindaas attitude. The 30-year-old actor is at the peak of his career with his films crossing the Rs 100 crore mark. Recently, he was felicitated with the Best Actor in a Comic Role award at the IIFA 2017 held in New York City. But do you know, he was once slapped by his brother while his parents termed him a ‘disgrace to the family’?

According to reports, during an interaction with Neha Dhupia on the second season of her podcast titled #NoFilterNeha, the Badrinath Ki Dulhania actor spilt the beans about an incident during his college days when he was punished by his parents for coming home late. “I was 16 or something when I had started going out for parties with friends. This incident happened when a friend of mine dropped me home at around 1 am. There was a group of girls who were staying on the first floor,” he said.

“These girls were more than 10 years elder to me. They invited me to join them for a party in their flat. I agreed and by the time it got over, I was the sole guy left. My phone was switched off and I had not informed anyone. Meanwhile, my brother knocked at the door as the watchman had told him about me going to the girls’ flat. As soon as I came out of the flat, he shut the door and slapped me hard,” the actor said.

“Why didn’t you call us or send a message?” Varun recalled the day his brother Rohit scolding him. He apologised for his mistake but was surprised to find out that when his elder brother went home and snitched about him to his parents.

“I went home and was shocked to see my parents awake at 2.30 am. My mother was like, you are a disgrace to this family, while dad ordered me to stay grounded for three months.” However, Varun now shares a great bond with his father David Dhawan and brother Rohit Dhawan. In fact, he acted in the 2016 action comedy Dishoom which was directed by Rohit and it turned out to be a commercial success.

Varun will be seen essaying a double role in Judwaa 2, which is directed by his father. It is a sequel to the 1997 hit Judwaa that featured Salman Khan in the titular role. The Dabangg actor along with Karisma Kapoor, who acted in the previous instalment of the film, will make a cameo appearance as well. The film releases on September 29 this year.
