Gudi Padwa 2017: Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and other celebs send best wishes

Bollywood celebrities including Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Sonali Bendre and Madhuri Dixit wished fans on the occasion of Gudi Padwa

Bollywood celebrities took to social media to wish their fans on the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa. This festival is celebrated in Maharashtra and is also known as Yugadi. The festival is of great significance as people believe it is auspicious to start a new business. To make the celebration more special for the fans, Bollywood celebrities like Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Sonali Bendre and Madhuri Dixit, sent their wishes.

It is said that Gudi Padwa marks the day when Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after defeating Lanka’s king Ravana. So the festival somehow also symbolises the victory over darkness.

Like any other festival, Gudi Padwa is also celebrated with one important food item a paste of Neem and Jaggery. On this day, people make rangoli at their home, dress up in new clothes and enjoy with their families. Women prepare sweet dishes like Puran Poli and Shrikhand and many other dishes to celebrate the festival.

Gudi is a long bamboo stick which is decorated with green or yellow coloured clothes tied at the top of a long bamboo along with (sugar crystals), neem leaves and a twig of mango leaves along with red flowers. On top of bamboo, a silver or copper pot is placed. It is said that the long bamboo stick symbolises victory and spiritual prosperity.

The Twitter timelines of Bollywood celebs have already turned festive. Shah Rukh Khan wrote, “Success, love and prosperity to all on the auspicious occasion of Gudi Padwa…”, while megastar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, “Happy Gudi Padwa .. happy Ugadi .. happy all around .. LOVE.”
