First still of Toilet: Ek Prem Katha shows Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar as a conventional small town couple

Actors Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar have teamed up for the first time for Narain Singh's directorial Toilet Ek Prem Katha

Akshay Kumar, who is flying high on the success of his last release Jolly LLB 2, has unveiled a still from another upcoming film of his. The actor who will be next seen in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, shared a picture from the movie. He also revealed in the tweet that the film’s shooting has been completed. His on-screen wife Bhumi Pednekar was also seen in the still.

Set in Uttar Pradesh, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, has a satirical flavour to it. The film has been largely shot in Nandgaon. The way Akshay and Bhumi are dressed in the still perfectly captures the essence of marriage in small town. The Khiladi Kumar of Bollywood can be seen like a conventional small-town groom.

Though the still of the film was released today, it has been in news for quite some time now. Residents of the towns where it was shot had earlier claimed the film hurt their religious sentiments. The residents alleged the film showed a marriage between a man from Nandgaon and a woman of Barsana. They argued this setup was against the tradition of the places as no marriage was allowed between people staying in these two places. They said it demeaned the pure love between Krishna and Radha.

The religious leaders apparently asked the director to change the plot else they won’t allow filming or release of the movie. Another religious leader went a tad too far when he announced Rs 1 crore reward to anyone who brought the director, Narain Singh’s, tongue.

As far as the makers are concerned, they vehemently denied these claims.

Nevertheless, the first still of the movie has been released and it looks promising. Check it here:
