Ae Dil Hai Mushkil vs Shivaay: Battle leads to end of Karan-Kajol's friendship?

The Kajol-Karan Johar jodi is a little tense at the moment

After a friendship that lasted decades, Bollywood actor Kajol and director/producer Karan Johar seem to be going through a rough patch. The duo, who have worked together on several superhit projects over the years, including Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and My Name is Khan, now aren’t even on talking terms!

The Kajol-Karan jodi seemed unbreakable, with Johar starring Kajol in every movie, even for a minute-long cameo. His “lucky charm”, he called her. Nearly every Johar movie that starred Kajol stormed the box office and would be the talk of B-town for months. So, what caused these two chaddi-buddies to drift apart?

Many claim that the rift between the two emerged over a professional issue with Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Ajay Devgn’s Shivaay clashing at the box office. Although that may have widened the rift, it certainly is not its source.

Rumours have been flying around for years that the Kajal-Karan friendship has sunk. Back in 2014, rumours surfaced after the two were seen giving each other the cold shoulder at a fashion show. Although both of them were present at the event, neither of them spoke to the other. At one point, Kajol was even seen sitting all by herself. This was were much unlike the two, who usually attended such fashion shows together.

Quite recently, when Kuch Kuch Hota Hai completed 18 years, Karan Johar took to twitter to celebrate the anniversary. He tweeted, “#18YearsOfKuchKuchHotaHai …. the film that will always remain close to my heart……@iamsrk and Adi made my cinema dream come true….” As evident, he missed out on Kajol.

This year, neither Kajol nor Karan wished each other on their birthdays.

Kajol’s husband, Ajay Devgn too denied the rift being a professional one. Devgn confirmed that the two weren’t as close anymore but cited a personal reason behind the growing rift. Their behaviour over the years makes it evident that the warmth between the two has been absent for quite a while and is most certainly not because of their upcoming films. Some also state that Kajol’s decision to work in Rohit Shetty’s Dilwale must have razed Johar.

Devgn explicitly stated that the clash has to do with a “personal hurtful feeling” and is not related to professional competitiveness. The two had gone through a similar clash back in 2012 too. Let’s hope that they find it in their hearts to work up on a reconciliation.
